My name is Carmel Blake. I am the current Chairperson of the Irish Dermatology Nurse’s Association.
I work as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Dermatology in Tallaght University Hospital. I also work one day a week as Clinical Manager on the Irish Skin Foundation Ask-a-Nurse Helpline. I have worked for over 30 years in Dermatology.
I have an MSc in Dermatology Skills and Treatments from the University of Hertfordshire, and I am a Registered Nurse Prescriber. After completing my MSc, I went on to do further Post graduate studies in Dermatology, studying dermoscopy and skin surgery. I run ANP clinics in Tallaght, working closely with the Dermatology Consultants. I have extended my scope of practice and perform minor skin surgery.
I lecture on numerous nursing courses; the Dermatology Nursing Post graduate certificate course in DCU, the ANP course in Trinity, the Wound management course for public health nurses, practices nurses and hospital-based nurses in the Trinity Centre.
I am passionate about Dermatology, and I am glad to be able to say that after so many years working in the area, I still love what I do.
